About Elm Sleep

Elm Sleep is one of the newest brands to launch in the mattress industry.

Founded in 2022, their company is dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality hybrid mattresses while prioritizing the safety of their customers and the environment.

All of their beds are made by hand in the USA using non-toxic, premium materials.

Elm Sleep Mattress Options

Elm Sleep offers two different mattress models in their product lineup:

As you can see, the Resort Collection model is 2′ higher than their Original Hybrid model.

Both models allow you to choose from 2 firmness levels:

  • Luxury Plush
  • Luxury Firmness

In this review, we chose the Luxury Plush firmness, as I personally prefer a slightly softer feel.

Elm Sleep Mattress Review: Resort Collection Unboxing

Once we decided that we were going to do a review on the Elm Sleep Resort Collection Hybrid, it took approximately 3-4 days for the mattress to arrive.

The mattress comes boxed like most other mattress-in-a-box companies, as you can see from the photo to the right.

Please note: The box was not shipped torn from Elm Sleep – our local shipping company is notorious for damaging the boxes of the mattresses we have shipped here.

The mattress does weigh quite a bit, since it is a hybrid.

So, you’re going to need a helping hand getting the box to where you need to set it up.

Elm Sleep Resort Hybrid Review: Inflated

Once we cut the plastic off, the Elm Sleep Resort Collection Hybrid started to inflate immediately.

We recommending giving the mattress as much time as possible to inflate, before sleeping on it.

However, this photo was taken approximately 1-2 hours later, and as you can tell, is inflated enough for use. (Though still not fully)

Elm Sleep Resort Hybrid Construction

Elm Sleep goes above and beyond with their construction, offering an almost unheard of 5 layers to the Resort Collection Hybrid mattress.

Let’s first take a look at the cover:

This quilting foam mattress features 1 inch of soft foam that is designed to sleep cool, and it is paired with Elm’s Luxurious 360 Stretch Knit Cover.

The cover is both cool to the touch and durable.

HD Visco Comfort Foam

The first layer features 3 inches of 4lb HD Visco comfort foam, which is designed to provide the best pressure relief for aching bodies.

If you choose the Luxury Firm option, there are 2 inches of this foam as opposed to 3.

HD Polyfoam

The next layer features 2 inches of HD poly foam, which provides unparalleled support to aid with back pain and lumbar support.

Elm-Mattress-ConstructionPocketed Hybrid Coils

Next we have 8 inches of pocketed coils that provide extra deep support.

The reinforced edges provide a sturdy edge to eliminate the feeling of rolling off the bed, and the independent coils reduce motion transfer for couples.

Poly Base Foam

The base of the Resort Collection features 1 inch of HD poly base foam, which provides a sturdy base and ensures that it can be used on most beds, platforms, or adjustable bases.

The firm model has 2 inches of this foam, instead of 1.

Side Panel Fabric

The durable side panel fabric of this mattress is in a dark color, which helps it stay and look clean even when moving.

How Did The Elm Sleep Resort Collection Perform?

Now, we can take a look at how the Elm Sleep 15″ hybrid mattress performed:

Motion Transfer

The Elm Sleep Resort hybrid mattress, along with other models in the same line, feature a pocketed coil system that aims to reduce motion transfer while you sleep.

These independent coils are designed to minimize movement, making them a good option for those who prioritize motion reduction.

In our experience, the hybrid coils found in these mattresses were effective at reducing movement compared to traditional innerspring mattresses.

Overall, we found the Elm model to be a satisfactory choice for reducing motion during sleep.

Edge Support

The Elm hybrid mattress features an outer row of three coils that are designed to be stronger and more durable, providing better edge support.

To give you better context, I am 200 lbs and did not notice the edge wanting to “give” when lying near it.

When sitting on the edge, there was a slight sinkage of maybe 3″, which is to be expected.

Compare this to say, memory foam mattresses, and you’ll see that this is a solid performance.

Elm-sleep-sinkageTo give you a good idea of how much sinkage you can expect from the Elm Sleep Resort Collection, I have attached a photo of me applying pressure.

As you can see, the mattress will sink 2-3 inches before hitting the hybrid coils in the mattress, creating the firmess of the mattress.

You will not see this much sinkage if you choose the Luxury Firm model – but again I am a fan of Luxury Plush.

For a plush pillow top mattress, this was the perfect level of sinkage, if you prefer a medium feel of a mattress all around.

Temperature Control

The Elm mattress line includes models with gel-infused memory foam, which is designed to dissipate heat away from the body, rather than trapping it like non-gel-infused foams.

The hybrid design of these mattresses also allows for increased airflow through the coil unit, which can help prevent overheating. In our experience, we did not find the Elm mattress to sleep excessively hot.

Additionally, the quilted top foam helps to prevent heat buildup, as it provides a layer of separation from the memory foam, which can trap heat more readily.

I am naturally a hot sleeper, as my body is like a furnace.

With the Elm Sleep Resort Collection hybrid I found myself sleep comfortably.

I did not have a night where I woke up sweating or feeling sticky.

Off Gassing

Elm Sleep uses Certi-PUR foams and water-based glues, which are known to emit fewer toxins than some other brands’ materials.

While natural mattresses can sometimes have strong odors due to their lack of chemicals, it is normal for any type of mattress to have some initial odor when it is first opened.

We did notice a slight smell with the Resort Collection hybrid when we first cut the plastic.

It wasn’t strong, and it was gone completely within the first 24 hours.

This is something we commonly encounter with almost any mattress-in-a-box brand.

When you purchase a hybrid mattress, a common issue is that you may hear the coils as you move through out the mattress.

This is because as your body adjusts on the mattress, different coils will compress and decompress.

However with the Elm Sleep we did not notice any sounds as we moved around on the mattress.

I share a mattress with my wife, who also stated she hasn’t noticed any noise.

Both the sleep trial and the warranty are above the industry standard, which is normally 100 nights with a 10-20 year warranty.

We always recommend giving a mattress at least 50 nights of trial, before making your final decision.

For many people, it can take quite some time to adjust to a new mattress.

Elm Sleep Mattress Review Conclusion

We at Sleep Pointe really enjoyed reviewing the Elm Sleep Resort Collection hybrid mattress.

If you are in the market for a luxury plush hybrid mattress, then we would recommend taking a look at this one.

This is especially true if you sleep with a partner, or are a heavier set person.

Elm Sleep also offers this mattress in a firmer model if you’re not a fan of the plush feel.

The Resort Collection hybrid does a great job catering to all sleep positions, as well as both spectrums of the firmness chart.

We say well done, Elm Sleep!
